Route By Link

It's too difficult to reproduce all functionality of original Google Maps. Sometimes much suitable to construct a route in Google Maps "Get Direction" page. Some cool new features such as changing a route by drag-n-drop are very useful and hard to reproduce by myself. But there is way out.

Now it's possible to copy special link in Google Maps, paste it to corresponding textbox and download route file just as in "Automatic route" page.

1. In Google Maps Get Directions page construct and customize your Route

2. Copy the link through "Link to this page" above the map

3. Paste it to the "Link from Google Maps" field and press "Get A Route!" button

I like the flexibility of creating a route on Google Maps and then pasting it into "Link from Google Maps" and pressing the "Get A Route" button. Then I create a GPX file, but it is TOO big. Several programs like Geocaching Along a Route at geocaching.com will not work with more than 500 points. Is there a way to control or reduce the number of points in the GPX file ?

You can choose 2 way to download GPX: "By Steps" and "By Road".
"By steps" means that only waypoints from the list below map will be use for GPX. This points are the "key" points of your route and in most cases its enough to drive by the route. File is very small.
"By Road" means that all points where the road changes its direction will be use for GPX. This way is useful for small directions mostly inside one city.

So, use "By steps" files to reduce amount of waypoints. Or if you have any ideas please let me know. May be we'll realize some of them.

Best wishes
